The honor of hosting the National Convention is a dream come true. And who hasn’t dreamt of California’s legendary riches, gentle climate and extraordinary beauty? Today, people continue to claim the California dream (or sing along with the Beach Boys).
“California, here I come” is the mantra heard from coast to coast as the National Convention — held this year in Burlingame, California, and hosted by the California State Button Society — gets closer and closer. And CSBS is looking forward to celebrating the diversity of our state— past and present — and the diversity of the buttons we collect and the people who collect them.
From the Gold Rush to “Oscar” gold, to Silicon Valley, to America’s salad bowl, to the wineries, to the citrus growers and their magnificent crate labels. From the art, music and architecture to the Missions, the mountains, the forests, the beaches, the deserts and everywhere and everything in between, we have an abundance of riches to share with our fellow button collectors who will converge on Burlingame in record numbers.
Between the California sun rising on Saturday, August 6,
and setting Saturday August 13, there will be a plethora
of fun and education to be had. From tours —
including the city of San Francisco, to the Wine Country,
to the Winchester Mystery House, to Muir Woods,
Filoli Gardens, Golden Gate Park, the Exploratorium and more — to educational programs and workshops that span centuries of beauty and art in buttons — to awards competition, an unbelievable live auction (the
likes of which has only been seen before at WRBA’s first show), a show room full of fabulous button dealers from all over the world, good friends and delicious food in a world-class hotel — you are in for the time of your life.
